Looking for a church home?

Are you looking for a church home that will help you in reaching your full commitment to serving Jesus Christ?

  • One that is much more than ‘lip service’?
  • Where you can be a part and not just a spectator?
  • A church with a rich history?
  • One where a number of the original charter members are still serving?

If you are, then Northside Baptist Church is for you

In 1962, some 25 adults felt the need to establish a place of worship in the north part of Garland. Under the sponsorship of another local church, the first service of Emmanuel Baptist Mission was held September 9, 1962, in a local rented warehouse.

Using James 5:16 as their guide, (“… the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”), the mission church grew. November 8, 1962, 69 charter members voted to organize as a New Testament Church, choosing the name Northside Missionary Baptist Church. The church aligned with the Baptist Missionary Association of America (BMAA) and the organizational service was held on December 2, 1962.

First service at the present location was on July 26, 1964. Northside has a rich heritage and has been led by 11 pastors throughout the years. Several young men have surrendered to the ministry and are still serving in that capacity. One family is serving on the mission field in Italy. Two former pastors are still serving the BMAA in leadership roles.

Dr. James L. Silvey became Executive Director of Publications for the BMAA, serving in that capacity for 29 years. He is now Administrator of the Garrett Memorial Christian School in Hope, Arkansas.

Dr. Virgil Porter served with the longest tenure, 15 years, and is now Instructor of Bible at the BMAA Conway Baptist College in Conway, Arkansas.

Our current pastor is Ryan Burchett.  He and his wife Lindsie are from the Lubbock area, however  Bro. Ryan was born in Garland and was raised in Carthage.  Bro. Ryan has served the Lord in ministry for nearly 10 years – 5 years as a youth minister and the remaining as a pastor.  Bro. Ryan graduated from Texas Tech University with his Bachelor of Science in Architecture and from the BMA Seminary at Jacksonville with his Master of Arts in Church Ministries.  Lindsie is a high school math teacher, currently serving the community at North Garland High School.

If you are looking for a stuffy church with people who are too serious to smile, this is not your church. But, if you are looking for a church that has friendly, caring Christian brothers and sisters who desire to worship God in the fullest; serve the community of Garland and around the world, have fun and eat well while having a wonderful time with Jesus Christ, then Northside is the right place for you!  As our Vision Statement proclaims: “We are loyal to Christ and we love people.”
